Research
GeraVoice is building voice-first AI interfaces for the two billion people who find text-based apps inaccessible — due to low literacy, limited keyboard access, or simply preferring to speak. Our research programme investigates the unique challenges of deploying conversational AI in low-bandwidth environments, across dozens of languages with limited training data, and through the telecom partnerships required to reach users who have never owned a smartphone.
Research Themes
- Voice UX for low-literacy users. Designing conversational flows for users who cannot read confirmation messages or error codes requires a fundamentally different UX model. GeraVoice research develops audio-first interaction patterns: progress sounds, confirmation prompts, and graceful error recovery that works without any text on screen.
- Multilingual model evaluation. Standard speech recognition and language model benchmarks are dominated by English, Mandarin, and Spanish. We build evaluation datasets for Armenian, Amharic, Twi, Luganda, Georgian, and Azerbaijani — languages with limited digital corpora but large populations of potential GeraVoice users.
- Telecom integration architecture. Reaching feature-phone users in Ghana, Uganda, or Armenia requires USSD, IVR, or operator-level API access — not an app store download. GeraVoice research maps the integration landscape for 26 target markets, analysing latency, cost, and feature constraints for each channel.
- Conversational commerce in emerging markets. When a user can book a GeraRide, pay with GeraCash, or consult a GeraClinic doctor entirely by voice — what does the trust and verification model look like? We study voice biometrics, PIN-over-voice authentication, and the fraud patterns that emerge in high-volume, low-connectivity voice commerce.
First Articles — Q3 2026
The GeraVoice research series launches in Q3 2026. First articles include a comparative evaluation of speech recognition accuracy across six African languages, a UX case study on voice-first onboarding in Yerevan, and a market analysis of telecom API access costs across GeraVoice's 10 launch markets.
